Lily's story

Kidz Konnekt - the young person's name has been changed to protect her identity

We first met Lily when she was 12 years old when we  came into contact with her through her school.   She presented with multiple issues having suffered a major trauma in her life. School and home life had become very difficult for this young person and with the added pressures that being a teenager brings she was clearly struggling and beginning to disengage with school and society in general. With agreement from Lily and her school we began a number of 1-1 sessions with her inside and outside of school.  As part of that engagement we also supported her to attend our youth groups.

After gaining her trust and building her confidence she took part in many positive activities and community projects building on her strengths to help her fulfil her potential. Brokering a multi-agency approach and having multiple meetings in school we were able to tackle some of the deeper issues allowing her to improve her attendance and attainment in school. Lily also attended accredited training courses with Kidz Konnekt helping with her personal development. This process overall helped relationships at home and at school to improve dramatically and has now presented us with a fine young volunteer who leads by example.

Lily is now 16 and still attends Kidz Konnekt, she is fully participating in her GCSE’S and has secured a place at college which is a success for her and  Kidz Konnekt has been actively involved in supporting her in this achievement.
