Home Start Teesside – Mums, Dads and Grandparents needed
Do you remember what it was like when your children were little? Sleepless nights, teething, the tantrums of the “terrible two’s, being at the end of your tether with no one to listen who understands just what it’s like?
Home Start believes that parents play a key role in ensuring that children have a happy and secure childhood, but even the most dedicated parents can face challenges that prevent them doing all they want for their children.
Home Start supports parents as they grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children and widen their links with the local community.
Home Start’s committed and caring volunteers, who are usually parents themselves, offer friendship and informal support to parents with young children under five during difficult times in their lives. They visit families at home and are friendly, approachable people who are relied on and trusted by parents to listen without being judgmental, and to respect the needs of each individual family.
Home Start are beginning a 10 week training programme for volunteers on Wednesday 14th May (during school hours).

NEW HORIZONS (Teesside)
Supporting those recovering from mental health problems
GUD BUD BEFRIENDING SCHEME
Volunteers are needed to provide a befriending service to people with enduring mental health problems, focusing on relieving social isolation and building relationship skills through enjoying leisure time. The Gud Bud Befriending Scheme trains, supervises and supports volunteers to be companions in a time limited, managed relationship, accompanying mental health service users and helping them engage in activities of their choice. Volunteers will give practical and emotional assistance to the service users, supporting them and building self esteem, confidence and independence. The kind of activities a volunteer might get involved with could be accessing community facilities, going shopping, a trip to the cinema or simply meeting for a coffee and a chat. Befrienders don't advise and counsel, but do listen and support them, and full training will be given. The time commitment required will be 2-3 hours per week.
