You talked – we listened

On the 12th April RCVDA invited organisations from across Redcar and Cleveland to come together to focus on the support the sector needs from us.   The event provided the opportunity for local groups to have an honest and meaningful discussion about their needs, the challenges they face in the current economic climate, services and support provided by RCVDA and what they thought we should be providing to meet their needs. Feedback on our services was incredibly positive (which we really appreciated) but groups reported that they needed new things to happen and that some of the things we are really good at and used to do; we needed to start doing again. As a result of what you said we are developing three new initiatives.

You said “More training, particularly some of the foundation skills for new people coming in to the sector i.e. new trustees, new groups and also as a refresher for existing management committees”

We listened!

Phoenix Dance Theatre

Phoenix Dance Theatre rising up in Tees Valley and North Yorkshire
Whilst many young people use the school holidays as a chance to catch up on some well earned rest, 19 budding performers and film makers are descending on Tuned In, Redcar from all over East Cleveland as part of a new project called ‘Create:Tour’. The young performers will be working with internationally renowned dance company Phoenix Dance Theatre and film maker Chris Spence for four intensive days as they create a brand new dance and multi-media performance.

The young performers will then take their show on tour, performing it as a curtain raiser to Phoenix Dance Theatre’s new mixed programme show ‘Phoenix REfined’, which will be visiting Loftus, Pickering and Redcar this June.

Rural Arts and Phoenix Dance Theatre gained funding from Arts Council England to choreograph a new show specifically for smaller stages, giving audiences a unique opportunity to get up close with some of the UK’s most talented dancers. Packed with solos, duets, trios and quartets taken from Phoenix’s most popular pieces from the last five years, the show captures years of quality in one evening, and includes a question and answer session with the company each night.
