Black History Youth Awards Nominations 2019

Cultures Community Interest Company (CIC) was established in 2007. Based in Stockton-on-Tees, Cultures CIC works with individuals and groups from BME, Immigrant and Refugee communities to improve social, economic and cultural inclusion and build social cohesion in Tees Valley. As part of our celebrations for Black History Month, Cultures CIC is holding its 5th Annual Black History Youth Awards & Fundraising Dinner on 18th October 2019 at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

The Black History Youth Awards arose to address the unique set of challenges facing young black people in Teesside and seeks to raise aspirations through promoting positive role models, celebrating positive stories rather than focusing on negatives, and to promote our mentoring project “it’s you and me”. Through a prestigious black tie dinner, we hope to show young black people that success is achievable, and allow them to meet with individuals, organisations and businesses to broaden their horizons and further their prospects.

We would like to give you this opportunity to nominate a young person from African/Afro Caribbean origin who you believe has excelled in one of our award categories, as listed on the attached nomination form.

Please return the completed nomination form by email to tasteofafrica.teesside@gmail.com or by post to 66 Dovecot Street, Stockton on Tees, TS18 1LL.

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service nomination deadline

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to voluntary groups, the equivalent of the MBE, and recognises the outstanding work that groups perform within their communities.

In 2019 six voluntary groups from North Yorkshire received the Award, these being;

  • Bedale Riding for the Disabled
  • Clapham Community Shop
  • Claro Enterprises
  • Hambleton Foodshare
  • Salturn Beachwatch
  • Scuba Diving or All

A Group’s nomination for an Award, followed by the assessment process has been seen to nourish a group as it is a mark of recognition for their hard work. We are keen to increase the number of Voluntary Groups being put forward for the Award. In order to do this, we need to boost the number of entries for outstanding groups or charities. We would greatly appreciate your help in promoting the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service within your Borough/District.

The deadline for nominations for 2020 is 13th September 2019.
