Grenfell Club Volunteer Opportunity – Support Worker

The Grenfell Club started life over forty years ago in a large house in Redcar with about a dozen children attending along with parents and interested people.
Members of the Cleveland Society (MENCAP) felt that there was a need somewhere for their children to have a couple of hours recreation on their own. This at the same time would provide parents and carers with some much needed respite. Many of the original children still attend the Grenfell and have see it grow over the years.
The Grenfell Club is committed to the provision of a special place for people of varying abilities and age, to develop social and communication skills through leisure activities.

Responsible to the session Leader. Supporting our members to socialize and learn, to provide activities and new experiences for children/young people and Adults with learning and physical disabilities, based in our purpose built community centre.

Delivery

  • To empathise with the aim, objectives and the development of the organisation
  • To adhere to all health and safety requirements/legislation, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and practises.
  • To abide by the Grenfell Club policy on confidentiality.
  • To abide by the Grenfell Club Social Media Policy.
  • To adhere to the Grenfell’s safeguarding child/adult protection policy.
  • To conform to all policies, procedures and guidelines laid down by The Grenfell club in respect of carrying out your duties and in other administrative aspects of the Grenfell club, as relevant.
  • To report immediately to the Session Leader any noticeable changes in health, behaviour or circumstances of our members – maintaining the members right to privacy and confidentiality.
  • To organise suitable activities during sessions within the building. Ensuring all risk assessments are completed in accordance with health and safety rules/guidelines, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and practices.
  • To support staff to organise suitable activities/visits within the local community. Ensuring all risk assessments are completed in accordance with health and safety rules/guidelines, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and practices.
  • To report and record any accident or incident which may occur – no matter how minor, whether to our members/staff/volunteers. Ensure the building id left clean and tidy.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and personal development interviews.
  • To work alongside staff and communicate effectively.
  • To undertake any other duties responsibilities which are commensurate with the nature of the post, as directed by the management committee.

New fund to help Storm Ciara victims

New fund to help Storm Ciara victims

Grants of up to £5,000 are now available

Storm damaged pitches and facilities could be back in use sooner than expected thanks to our new emergency flood relief fund.

The effects of Storm Ciara are still being fully assessed but, in an attempt to rectify the damage as soon as possible, local authorities and community sports organisations are being invited to apply for a grant of up to £5,000 to pay for emergency repairs.

Gale force winds and torrential rain have left pitches, pavilions and floodlights in a state of disrepair, with Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire among the worst-hit areas.

The grants, which will come from our Community Asset Fund, can be provided in as little as three weeks.

The grants could typically be used to restore grass pitches, to repair and decontaminate flood or wind-damaged clubhouses, replace damaged electrical systems or dredge blocked drains.

£1 million to diversify the sports workforce

16 projects that engage women or BAME communities will benefit

Sixteen projects aimed at engaging women and/or Black, Asian or minority ethnic (BAME) communities in coaching or volunteering will receive a share of £1 million.

We’re awarding the National Lottery funding to projects who applied to our Workforce Diversity Great Ideas Fund, last summer.

Launched during Coaching Week 2019, the fund aims to address the barriers faced by women and those from BAME communities when trying to get started in coaching and volunteering

The recipients include everyone from local sports clubs and schools to national governing bodies, each with a brand new project to work on.

Non-Executive Directors wanted for the Link (Redcar) Community Interest Company based in Redcar and Cleveland

The Link is a Redcar based professional mental health and emotional wellbeing provider based in the North East of England, we are passionate about supporting children, young people and families locally. Our services include a wide range of workshops and training, therapeutic assessments, one to one therapeutic interventions including specialist therapies with a focus on Trauma and Attachment and Children and Young People, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP IAPT) evidence-based therapies.

The Link is going through a period of development and as part of this, we are seeking to strengthen our Board by recruiting two additional Non-Executive Directors. You will work closely with the other Board members to set the strategic context within which high quality, evidence based therapeutic services are provided to children and young people. We are looking for people who can play a key role in corporate leadership, governance and financial stewardship and can contribute effectively to the strategic development and planning of the wider Link CIC system. Our strong culture, ethos and values have helped us develop a strong reputation for delivering safe, efficient and effective services which service users would choose and recommend.

Do you have senior leadership experience and the credibility to forge strategic alliances and build effective relationships at all levels internally and beyond the organisation? We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with financial and/or strong commercial or strategic backgrounds in children’s services or similar.

We believe it is important for all our Board and senior managers to be visible and encourage our Non-Executives to visit our services, to meet staff and the people we care for. You would also be required to attend regular Board meetings (currently bi-monthly but may change to quarterly once the Board is fully established). Out of pocket expenses will be paid to the successful candidates ​(where appropriate).
