Context of Role

The Friends of Silver Mews support the work of the Silver Mews Care Home. Situated in the heart of a residential community in the seaside town of Redcar. Silver Mews is a 41 bedded care home offering a range of care including Residential, Respite and Dementia care.

The Friends aim to improve the quality of life of the residents of the care home by working with staff, residents and relatives.

Role Description

Would you like to be part of Silver Mews Volunteering team? Befriending is a service that provides support and friendship to older people who may be feeling lonely or isolated.

Silver Mews Care Home are looking for to fill numerous roles for their evening befriending service.

This role is in the Silver Mews Care Home in Redcar.

It will be every Wednesday evening 5pm-7pm or Sunday 5pm-7pm (could cover most days of the week).

Purpose of the Role

You will be given a list of residents to check in with. Some will chat for longer than others so there is no time frame set for each resident. You will visit the same people each week so you can build a good relationship with them. A Silver Mews team member will be available should you have any difficulties or worries.

  • To be passionate about supporting, enabling and empowering people who feel lonely or isolated.
  • To enjoy quality conversations.
  • Friendly and approachable.
  • To be a good listener and show empathy.
  • To be punctual and reliable.
  • To deal with any information in line with their data protection and confidentiality procedures.
  • Report any issues that may arise.
  • To be calm and have the confidence to work under minimal supervision.
