Context of Role

A Way Out is an outreach and prevention charity which aims to engage, empower and equip vulnerable and excluded women, families and young people to live lives free from harm, abuse and exploitation and to reduce life limiting choices and behaviour.

Role Description

A Way Out are looking for exceptional volunteers to join their Unity team in a Support Role to co-deliver creative group sessions to young people.

Unity is A Way Out’s umbrella of services that ensures children and young people (up to 26 years old) receive the right support at the right time and by the right service as they transition into adulthood.

This support includes trauma and gender informed one to one and group interventions, as well as digital engagement and peer support.

The ideal candidate will already have experience of working with or having supported children and young people in a personal capacity.

Purpose of the Role

Volunteers in a Unity Support Role may be tasked with:

  • Co-delivering session based intervention programmes in schools (primary and secondary) around specific topics such a healthy relationship, consent, the impact of violence, peer pressure, boundaries, toxic friendships etc. You would be delivering to groups of children/young people – in groups of up to 20 at a time. These are delivered in schools during term time.
  • Co-delivering creative group sessions to young people (13-25) in an office which offer informal education as well as a range of activities such as craft, games, quizzes etc. These may be delivered during the day in non-term time as well as on an evening during term time.
  • Co-delivering targeted group sessions to young people (13-25) around a variety of topics such as; anxiety, regulating and managing emotions, stress, mindfulness. These may be delivered during the day in non-term time as well as on an evening during term time.
