Hire Contract

If you are qualify for the scheme you will enter a minimum three-month hire agreement, which is a regulated credit agreement under the terms of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

Redcar and Cleveland Voluntary Development Agency is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority in order to issue such agreements. See our registration details here.

Hire Contract Costs

Costs of the scheme are inclusive of all vehicle costs including tax, insurance and serving. They can be paid on the following basis depending on your circumstances and are payable in advance.

Please note: by agreeing to a hire a vehicle through us you are committing to a minimum hire term of thirteen weeks or three months hire, with a total cost of £390. You will not own the vehicle at the end of the hire period.

All hire payments must be paid through our online payment platform STRIPE and undertaken on a recurring payment basis from a debit or credit card.

We are supportive of all circumstances and will work with you if you fall into arrears, however, if you persistently fail to meet your obligations we may remove the bike and pursue you for any outstanding costs.

Additional Setup Costs

Cost of CBT

If you need a CBT to be able to access the scheme, this will cost you in the region of £130 to £150 upfront and can take as a month to organise.

The cost of the CBT is NOT included within the scheme, though specific help may be available depending on your circumstances, please ask a member of the team for more information.

Safety Equipment

You are required to have a minimum amount of safety equipment to comply with the law and in order to use a bike from the scheme, these are: full-face helmet and protective gloves. Whilst it is not illegal to ride without a motorcycle jacket and/or a high visibility waistcoat we highly recommend they be used.

You are able to provide your own equipment, but it will need to be checked by our staff to ensure that it has the correct safety grade before you can be issued with a bike. If you do not have your own equipment we can provide it at the following additional cost:

Other Conditions of Hire

Upon joining the Tees Valley Wheels 2 Work scheme you will be required to abide by the following other conditions of hire:

Mileage and Servicing

Provide us with weekly updates by text of your mileage so that servicing can be arranged. Servicing happens at 500, 1000, 2500 and then every subsequent 2,500 miles.

Damage and/or Faults

Report any damage and or faults on or to the vehicle so that they can be promptly fixed. Do not drive the vehicle if you suspect it is not safe to drive or a warning light tells you not to drive it.

Minimum Requirements

Age Requirement

You must be at least 17 years of age to hire an electric motorbike.

Residency Requirement

You must be a resident of the Tees Valley, which is made up of the following five local authorities:

Darlington
Hartlepool
Middlesbrough
Stockton-on-Tees
Redcar and Cleveland

Need Requirement

You must either be in work, have a firm offer of work, or be in training or higher education.

Licencing Requirement

Driving Licence Requirement

You must hold a valid copy of one of the following driving licences:

*If you do not hold a full motorbike licence, you must hold a valid Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) certificate in order to ride one of our e-Motorbikes as they are all equivalent of 125cc or above engines .

You will need to provide us with a copy of this licence before you can join the scheme.

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)

Unless you have a valid motorcycle licence you will be required to go through Compulsory Basic Training in order to be able to hire and ride one of our e-Motorbikes.

You cannot progress with your application unless you have provided us with a copy of a valid, active CBT, with at least three months remaining.

You will need to provide us with a copy of your CBT certificate before you can join the scheme. This is a requirement of our insurers and may be shared with them if requested.
