Reaching Out Across Durham (ROAD)

ROAD is an employment programme in County Durham funded by the European Social Fund and the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund. Working in partnership with 11 voluntary and community sector delivery Partners who are specialists in employment, health, financial and digital inclusion and volunteering, ROAD will support 625 long term unemployed people into or towards employment.

We are currently seeking motivated and focused self-starter to join our successful team as a:

Health Trainer

Salary: Band 3, £17,957 per annum, pro rata, rising to Band 4 £18,824 per annum, pro rata once qualified and competent
Hours: 30 hours per week, funded by the European Social Fund and the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund
Location: The Workplace, Aycliffe Business Park, Heighington Lane, Newton Aycliffe, DL5 6AH
Post: Fixed Term Contract Until June 2019

Job Purpose:

To work in a range of settings in County Durham to support a caseload of Reaching Out Across Durham (ROAD) Participants and provide them with 1:1 and group support, helping them overcome health barriers to employment. Working closely with Navigators to enable participants to address their barriers and realize their aspirations.

To provide a range of support and advice you will help each participant develop a tailored health action plan and monitor progress.

Key tasks:

  • Managing a caseload and maintaining regular supportive contact with each person.
  • Creating personal health action/activity plans with clients.
  • Developing and delivering group activities aimed at improving health or wellbeing.
  • Working with partners and pro-actively signposting clients onto other services.

Key skills required:

  • The ability to independently travel across County Durham

Age UK Teesside is a charity that works with and for the older people in our community across the 4 Boroughs of Teesside. The charity is keen to appoint 3 new Trustees to the Board and are looking for dynamic and committed people who can make a difference to join our very successful existing team. In particular we are looking for skill sets which include:

  • HR/employment law
  • Safeguarding/social care experience
  • Finance/business leader/economics

We are also seeking a qualified accountant to be our new honorary treasurer.
All of the above roles are voluntary.

You will gain all of the information and support you need to become a Community Health Champion. You do not need any prior knowledge of health

The Community Health Champions Learning Day is a relaxed and informative day covering the following topics:

Healthy Eating, Smoking, Mental Well Being, Alcohol, Screening Awareness and Physical Activity

You will leave the day with a bank of top tips which you can pass on to family, friends and colleagues who may be interested in leading healthier lifestyles. You will also gain information about local services and activities which you can signpost people to if further support is needed. Volunteers Needed

Cleveland Fire Support Network
After Fire
– to complete assessments after the event of a fire and evaluate what support is necessary to help the victims.
Driver – As well as being a driver you will also be able to carry out the following roles:
Delivery of risk reduction equipment
Trailer towing
Heart Start training – You can train to become a trainer to educate members of the public on dealing with an unconscious person, the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, recognising a cardiac arrest and performing CPR, dealing with choking, dealing with serious bleeding.
Interpretation – Volunteers with additional languages can greatly assist the Network and Brigade by providing interpretation to the BME communities within the Cleveland area, this will increase fire safety within our BME community
Learn & Live – This is a presentation lead training programme involving real life situations such as house fires, drugs and alcohol misuse and driving incidents.
Office Duties – General office duties and telephone enquiries
Sensory Loss Alarm Fitter – a knowledge of DIY is needed to fit alarms
Un-Contactables – Sometimes residents are not at home when fire personnel call, in these instances volunteers will try to make contact and carry out these visits on behalf of the Fire Brigade.

Redcar & Cleveland Citizens Advice
Various volunteer opportunities including

/Administrator/Trustee/Fundraiser

This is an opportunity to engage with residents from the local area to address issues which may be affecting their lives. This could be by offering advice and support or by signposting and referring to other partner agencies.
Although the training within CA is ongoing, the volunteer roles on offer give opportunity to support the most vulnerable and give volunteers a sense of fulfilment and satisfaction in helping others.

The Recovery Advocates and Consultants UK (TRAC)

TRAC help vulnerable adults to achieve good health and wellbeing with a specific focus on alcohol and drug recovery, mental health and working with people who have substance dependence.
They provide coaching and support so they can start to make the first steps towards recovery. Many clients have not been able to engage with mainstream services due to their challenges and with TRAC’s guidance many go on to recover and live fruitful lives.
We need volunteers to provide advocacy support to clients at appointments, help them identify areas where they require support and help them gain access to other services to aid with their recovery.
Volunteers need to be empathetic, open-minded, non judgemental and committed. Personal experience of drug and alcohol, health & social care or criminal justice would be highly desirable.

NEPACS is a charity which supports a positive future for prisoners and their families in the north east.

We are seeking someone with a passion for making a positive difference to the lives of young people who is able to lead a regional team as well as demonstrate excellent administrative and project management skills.

The post holder will line manage sessional workers as well as a wider team of volunteers. They will support the delivery of special visits at regional prisons and co-ordinate a programme of community-based activities.
