Dear Volunteers
We have received an overwhelming response to our appeal for support indeed over 200 people have registered with us and we want to thank you personally for coming forward to support your community.
At the moment we don’t have volunteer opportunities for everyone however we see this, not as a sprint but as a marathon. Once the initial concerns over food and medicine have been addressed, we believe that your support may be needed for issues that have yet to be identified as the lock down carries on for longer. Together with the local authority and other partners, we are currently exploring how best to utilise your particular skills.
Redcar Neighbours
The local authority have received notification of 500 ‘shielded residents’ – but that doesn’t include all the vulnerable members of our communities so, our initial ask of you is that you begin by becoming a Redcar Neighbour contact for your own neighbourhood?
- Can you identify any needs which are not already being met?
- Is there already a mutual aid Covid response group operating in your area?
- Can you set up a WhatsApp group with your neighbours?
- Are your older neighbours getting food delivered either by a supermarket or family?
- What about parents who are working from home and trying to home school – what would help them?

Volunteering with Age UK
Age UK Teesside have been providing a befriending service in Redcar and East Cleveland for some time. Most of their clients are vulnerable and lonely and after lockdown, nothing will change and they will continue to be lonely and isolated. They are always looking for people who would like to volunteer, not for just now but also for the future.
