Artsbase: Sand Tray Training

Sand Tray Training

ArtsBase are happy to be hosting a Sand Tray training with accredited Play Therapist Marie Blythe on Wednesday April 12th from 1pm – 4pm. We are offering places to professionals who work therapeutically with vulnerable adults and/or young people. We are asking for a donation of £40. Please call 07496473612 or email info@artsbase.org to book a place. The workshop will take place in the ArtsBase Studio, The Earthbeat Centre, Marske Road, Saltburn by the Sea. TS12 1QA

This workshop offers practitioners an introduction to the use of sand play in developing resilience. An experiential workshop is offered looking at how sand play can enable children, young person and adults to present their inner conflicts in a safe and contained way. Sand play can be combined with therapeutic story telling and can offer practitioners a unique insight into the child’s perceptions and life journey. Sand play can be particularly effective in supporting young people impacted by trauma, divorce, domestic violence, bullying, abuse and those who have experienced temporary or long term care provision. A theoretical brief will be offered, along with opportunities for practitioners to experience their own sand tray where appropriate.

‘You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation’ (Plato)

The work shop aims to show practitioners the value of using sand play with children/ young people and adults in order to attune to the client’s natural drive to gain increased self-awareness and mastery over the conscious and unconscious conflicts within their life. The work shop delivery is based on the use of sand play within play therapy as opposed to analytic forms of therapy. With this in mind sand play is explored as a way to connect with the client in order to learn from them. The client is believed to have the knowledge and inner resources to present their own conflicts and gain mastery over them.
