Volunteering a few days a year to deliver effective trusteeship is a powerful way to support and develop the work of essential organisations making a huge difference to the lives of thousands of people across the Tees Valley.

Trusteeship is hugely rewarding. As well as the satisfaction that comes from knowing you are part of a healthy and vibrant civil society, you’ll develop new skills, meet amazing new people and be part of interesting events, debates, initiatives and activities.

Whether you are a younger or older person, working in the private, public or voluntary sectors, retired, studying or unemployed, if this is something you are already thinking about or might be interested in, it would be great to see you at the event.

You’ll have opportunity to:

  • Learn about the role and why it is so important.
  • Hear first-hand from trustees and organisational leaders about their experience with a focus on demystifying the role of a trustee.
  • Have one-to-one conversations with a range of trustees and organisational leaders to answer your questions and delve further into trusteeship.
  • Express interest in a variety of follow-up initiatives being created to guide and support individuals into their first trusteeship position.

Redcar & Cleveland Substance Use Tender

The Health Improvement Commissioning Team are looking to expand the distribution of the Supplier Networking Information Form among local community organisations.

‘If you haven’t already seen it, we would like to highlight the current tender on the NEPO Procurement Portal for an integrated Substance Use Recovery & Wellbeing Service for Redcar & Cleveland. The proposal is for a community asset based model and, as such, involvement from community organisations will be important to lead providers seeking to form bidding partnerships. If you would like your organisations’ details to be shared with potential bidders, please complete this form as soon as possible and return it to: Procurement@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk

All forms received will be uploaded onto the portal, where all organisations who have registered an expression of interest will be able to see them.’

Gardening and Growing: Seed Swap at Thrift 2017

Alex Nicholson, Festival of Thrift Coordinator, writes: “Growing is one of our themes at this year’s Festival of Thrift (23&24th Sept) and we’d love to get the local allotments/growing/gardening groups involved at the festival – both selling produce if available, sharing their knowledge and skills of growing and managing a seed/plant swap project where people can bring seeds and swap seeds. I wonder if you could point me in the right direction as to who may be interested in getting involved please.

Seed Swap Project

A cheap and easy way for gardeners and allotment-holders to replenish their spring seed stock.

Swapping seeds is a great way to increase the variety of what you grow, as well as a good opportunity to exchange gardening tips.

Save money. When you buy a packet of seeds there are always more than you need, but if you exchange these with other people, for different seeds, you get twice the range of seeds from your original investment.

Grow new plants. You’ll pick up ideas to grow new plants and vegetables which you might not have thought of before.

Get growing tips. It’s not just about exchanging seeds but about meeting other growers in the community and swapping ideas and advice on how to look after those plants, or even how to cook them.

It would be great to get all the local allotment/gardening groups involved with the project to manage and run the space too. Please can you pass on to the allotment contacts and any other gardening clubs/groups would be fab too. I’m already requesting seeds etc.. Thompson&Morgan have donated x50 packs of seeds to the events already.”
