Inter-Action (May 2016 Edition 1)

Pizza and Politics Night – Wednesday 11th May

Youth Focus: North East are hosting a Pizza and Politics night to give young people in the area the chance to reflect upon the EU referendum.

The event is aimed at young people aged 16 to 24 years old living in the Tees Valley area. Young people do not need to have any knowledge of politics and the event will give them the chance to find out more about the EU referendum, ask any questions and understand how it affects them.

The Pizza and Politics night will be on Wednesday 11th May from 6pm at the Acklam Green Centre in Middlesbrough and will finish no later than 9pm

North East Together – Leaders Network for Social Change

Inspiration. Collaboration. Mutual Support

Event 6: Health, Devolution & Social Movements
Thursday 19th May, 4.45 – 8pm.
Venue: Partners Room, 8th Floor, Newcastle University Business School.

The next ‘whole network event’ will explore the social movements: how they contribute to the health and wellbeing agenda, and how they fit with new devolved power arrangements in England.
The speakers are Alan Higgins, Director of Public Health from Oldham Council – and lead for Arts, Health and Social Movements for the Greater Manchester devolved authority, and Nick Dixon, a Commissioning Manager for Stockport Council, who plays a key role in the NHS’ Health As A Social Movement programme. They have some very exciting ideas about the role of social movements in creating a healthier society. (I’ve never heard a Director of Public Health talk about mass protest as a way to promote health issues before, have you?)
As always, the event is free to attend, but registration is essential.
